Through the last month I have been watching and reading different versions of the wonderful and famous play of the one of the best writers in history of English literature. even though it was written in a old antique English written way, i enjoy a lot the story and all the drama within it. After finishing the play I also watched the movie R+J which is a recently version of this famous play. And this is my critique about the relation between these two.
The most descriptive critique between these two versions is the deletions and the additions the movie had about the play. The most significant change the movie had was the death of Romeo. in the book Romeo suicide thinking Juliet was dead. Otherwise in the movie Romeo is killed by Paris, who is the one Juliets parents to marry Juliet. Because this delete and add thing of the movie that I really think the pure and unmodified version of Shakespeare is the best one, this movie receive so many bad critiques from famous artists and making the Shakespeare version more wanted.
This isn't everything about this comparison. Obviously the context of the story and the background also differ. Because this, i consider that the Shakespeare version is better because is the original one, bringing the exact feelings Shakespeare wants the reader or viewer to fell. knowing that the movie had good actors and a well structured idea, the comparison with the original version made the movie a bit poor. Giving these reasons I state that by my judgement, the book has the original elements and therefore is better.
